Final grade calculator
The score you need on your final is the grade you want, minus your current grade times the part of the class that isn't the final, divided by how much the final counts. Put in three numbers and this does the math, or enter each category from your syllabus and it works out your current grade too.
Fill in the numbers above to see the score you need.

Why this tool exists
Here is the math the calculator does. Say your grade is 85% and the final counts for 20%. The rest of the class counts for the other 80%, so it already gives you 85 times 0.8, which is 68 points. To finish with 88%, you need 20 more points from the final, and since the final is worth 20% of the grade, that takes 20 divided by 0.2, a score of 100%.
If your syllabus grades by categories, switch to weighted categories and enter each one with its weight and your average in it. The calculator works out your grade before the final by weighting each category's average by its share, then does the same math. If your weights don't add up to 100% with the final included, it tells you, because the result is only as right as the weights.
Some classes drop your lowest test, let the final replace a midterm or curve the final. None of that is in this math, so check your syllabus and adjust the numbers you enter. The result is the score before any curve.
When you'd use this
- Deciding which final needs the most of your time
- Checking whether a lower score on one final still keeps your grade
- Classes graded by weighted categories like homework, quizzes and midterms
- Seeing the highest grade you can still finish with
Got your number? Plan the days
Once you know what each final needs, give the most time to the exams that need the highest scores and the topics you know least. The finals study schedule maker turns your exam dates and topics into a day by day plan.
Practice for the exam itself
A practice exam under time shows you where your points will come from before the real one does. Upload your notes or slides to Cereby and it makes practice quizzes that keep coming back to the questions you miss.
